Holden Johnson - Lenoir, NC
My name is Holden Johnson and I am from Lenoir N.C. I have been trout fishing ever since I could hold a rod. I got into fly fishing because of my best friend, my Grandfather. He taught me the basics of fly fishing; the suspension method way. I had great success with it for years. I never had heard of euro nymphing until I met a guy by the name of Shawn Issacs. I watched him use that technique and instantly became fascinated with its’ unique style and effectiveness. It wasn’t until a few years later in the early spring of 2017 when I turned 16 that a fellow Team Stonefly member, Brandon Harrison, started working with me. We went to our home water of Wilsons Creek together for my first time ever euro nymphing. I had nothing but a pair of old sneakers and some wet wading socks that Brandon let me borrow. We went for about half a day and I watched and learned the basics of euro nymphing. I started with one streamer and worked my way to 2 nymphs as I progressed. At this point, I was hooked! I was genuinely loving everything about this new style and the thoughts of competitive angling. I’ve worked hard at it and continue everyday striving to get better. 2018 will be my first official competitive fly fishing and euro nymphing season. I’m truly blessed to do the one thing that I love the most, while meeting phenomenal people along the way.
